The Surname Society reserves the right to remove or moderate any posts that contravene one or more of these terms, or any posts that could otherwise potentially cause offence, harm or risk (including reputational) to any organisation, group or individual. We will notify the individual concerned (using the email provided in the individual’s membership application) if we remove or moderate posts. In extreme cases of misuse, or where an individual repeatedly contravenes one or more of the terms, we reserve the right to ban the individual from using the Forum, Chat Room, Facebook Group and/or Google+ Group.

• First and foremost, be respectful of other members;
• When joining or contributing to a discussion, please stay on topic. If you have a new topic to discuss, you can start a new discussion thread;
• When creating discussion topics, please check that a similar one does not already exist. If it does, please join that discussion instead (duplicates will be removed);
• Please use language that is clear to all members. Wherever possible, avoid using jargon or acronyms and give discussion threads meaningful titles;
• Do not break the law (this includes libel, condoning illegal activity and contempt of court);
• Do not use language that is offensive, inflammatory or provocative (this includes swearing and obscene or vulgar comments);
• Do not discuss party politics on the community;
• Do not add or upload content that is unrelated to the purpose of the community;
• Do not post personal information relating to other individuals – addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other online contact details – you may, of course, post your own personal information but we would recommend that you exercise caution if you decide to do this;
• Do not impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or an organisation;
• Do not make any commercial endorsement or promotion of any product, service or publication not relevant to the discussion;
• Do not use the Forum, Chat Room, Facebook Group or Google+ Group to make a profit or to gain a commercial advantage for yourself or others;
• Do not copy, sell or distribute the information contained within The Surname Society’s website outside the Forum, Chat Room, Facebook Group and/or Google+ Group without the prior permission of the originator;
• Do not repost or retransmit content outside the Forum, Chat Room, Facebook Group or Google+ Group that belongs to another user, without that user's permission.
